This new build scheme, currently referred to as ‘Court Barn’ for the client, is located in picturesque South Oxfordshire.
A private residence with an attractive structure, Oak Flitch Beams and a vaulted hallway, this project is full of charm and character and we can’t wait to see the finished result.
Centrespace Design undertook both the structures and the civils for this project, with extensive landscaping retaining wall works at varying levels.
The design of the pumped sewage treatment tank and drainage field was also undertaken, ensuring that accurate percolations tests we taken onsite to create an efficient design for the client.
Working closely with the oak supplier, oak flitch beams were designed which maximised the load carry capacity of the members whilst ensuring that the depth of the oak did not limit the head heights.
Bespoke T sections were fabricated, and then slotted between the oak beams, with the top flange of the steel extending over the oak to provide support for the first floor stone.
This gave us confidence that the masonry would not crack as the oak dries out and shrinks over time, as the steelwork is taking most of the load.
A brilliant project to be working on, and we are looking forward to the scaffolding being removed alongside the finishes being started.
